Does the 'Payment Terms' transactional attribute field serve any purpose?

The business needs to know if payment terms are defined from the item, these payment terms reach the OM and AR modules.

From our tests, it seems that the field has no impact on these modules.

In Oracle Help Center define the field as 'informational only'.

We would like to know if this field is only informative and what function it fulfills then.
