How to assign group access to "Sandbox" versions in our custom planning app? "does not allow" error

Hi,

Hoping someone can help us out/point us in the right direction.

In our custom EPM cloud planning app, we have some Version members setup as:

Sandboxes
---> Sandbox 1
---> Sandbox 2
---> Sandbox 3
---> Sandbox 4
---> Sandbox 5

We are trying to assign additional group access to these Sandbox version members. But when doing so, we are unable to and get an error of: "You are trying to modify an object that does not allow modifications".

Is there something special about these "Sandbox" version names/parent that is causing us this issue? Or anything else necessary to get past this issue?
