Formatting data entry forms is buggy and slow (any tips?)

Summary:

I'm looking for tips as I'm trying to use formatting in data entry forms to make them easier to work with, but find it really buggy and slow.
What am I doing wrong or should I do different? (or should I just create an SR)

I'm using a combination of:

  1. Grid formatting (specific members should get specific colours)
  2. Metadata formatting (header should get a different colour)

I'm using a hex code for the colours and notice a few things.

  1. When copying metadata formatting to different columns the rule names stay the same (I suspect this is causing an issue, removing formatting after the service window)
