UDQ to access data from custom object

Summary:

I have created a custom object with the following attributes: Start Date, End Date, Type, and Amount.

I need to create a UDQ to fetch Amount from the custom object by passing the Transaction date and Type attribute values. How do I pass these values and the challenge I see is to ensure that the Transaction date falls between the start and end date
