VNCServer Session Is Not Started on Oracle Linux Instance

edited Jun 30, 2022 1:51PM in Linux

Attempting to start a VNCServer session on an instance running Oracle Linux 7 or higher fails with either 'Internal error: Could not resolve keysym' or 'XIO: fatal IO error 11 (Resource temporarily unavailable) on X server ":1"'. This is due to a GUI desktop not being installed on the instance, which means VNCServer sessions cannot be started.

Attempting to start aVNCServer session on an Oracle Linux instance fails with either of the following errors:

  • Error 1:

$ cat /home/opc/.vnc/localhost:1.log

Warning: the -nolock option can only be used by root
