Applies to:

Oracle Cloud Infrastructure

Linux x86-64

Goal

How to edit files or change a user's key inside an OCI Compute IaaS instance using a serial console connection.

The described procedure may or may not apply to OCI PaaS instances. For more information check the OCI documentation for the specific PaaS solution.

Solution

This document assumes you have a working serial console connection to your instance and are seeing the login prompt at the serial console terminal.

If you don't have yet established a successful serial console connection please follow the OCI documentation here:

You can use either a serial or VNC console connection to your Linux instance and then perform the following steps to enter the instance without a user or password. The serial console can be accessed from a local ssh connection or from the OCI Cloud Shell.
