Read only field for user but can be updated by integration/API

Summary:

For customer Nova we a creating quality issues through integration with their MES system. We have some fields that we want the MES through integration to be able to update but not have them update-able by users. We un-ticked the update-able flag on the field but that prevented it from being update-able for both integration/API and UI.

Is there anyway to achieve that the field can be updated through API but not through UI?
