Data entered into DFF is not being retained when context value is changed

We have set up some DFF fields (The descriptive flex field code is AP_CHECKS) to records information on returned checks and outstanding check. What we are seeing is that when the payment details are opened and data is entered into these DFF fields, and we go back to the "manage payments' form, we can click the 'Details' icon on the right had side and see the data that we entered. If we go back into the payment details form, change the DFF Context value, the DFF fields are re-set and the data is lost. If we change
