OCI - How to Enable SSH Password Authentication in Oracle Linux 9

Applies to:

Oracle Cloud Infrastructure - Version N/A and later

Linux x86-64

Oracle Linux 9

Goal

This document outlines the steps required to enable SSH Password Authentication in Oracle Linux 9.

Solution

Password authentication is considered a week authentication method.  It is not recommended, but if it is required, then this is the correct method to enable it in Oracle Linux 9.

It is not recommended to change any of the existing files located in /etc/ssh/sshd_config.d as these may be overwritten during an update.

1) As the root user, create a file named 40-enable-passwordauth.conf in /etc/ssh/sshd_config.d/
